Laura Bates

Laura Bates

Born on Christmas Eve in the eighties, Laura has been fishing since she can remember. Her first rod was neon blue with a matching reel, and when not out fishing with her sister and father, she and her sister would be sitting on their front porch casting into the grass making up the most imaginative and biggest fishermen stories known to man. "Caught a fish this big..."

When she was in her teens she started tying crawler harnesses for the walleye her and her family would troll for year after year. Fishing in the "walleye grounds" as she called them, was one of her favorite things to do when camping with her whole family in Northern Michigan.

Recently she has fallen head over heals for the art of fly fishing. Her everyday is consumed by the mere thought of flying. She learned how to tie flies on a kitchen table at a cabin up north- and since then she has grown as a tyer and fisherman. Her first trout was caught in the Betsie River, and to this day she still is completely excited about that little five inch trout.

She is the author of the bilingual blog, Me and My Borrowed Waders, which was made to inspire more women to get into some waders and cast a fly rod. Loving to travel, with her rod case and Tilley Hat she makes waves and more often then not someone will ask her if she is on a flying adventure. Her goal is to fly all fifty states and eventually make it back to Spain to cast her rod into the streams abroad.
